Chapter 8 Bonding Stitching and Padding

This is the work completed for Chapter 8

I am conscious that some of the samples do not have a lot of stitch work on them, but there are examples where crosses are outlined in stitch rather than fabric as well as fabric crosses.

Samples either have one or two bonded layers and are labelled as such.

Samples are divided up, with the explanation of different samples prior to the pictures:

Samples 1 to 3
Samples 4 and 5
Some experimenting with bondaweb
Samples 6 to 8
Comparison of the same painted bondaweb on different coloured backgrounds

Chapter 7 Designs translated into layers of fabric applique using stitched method

Here are presented eight samples, including some sample work sheets.

For each sample I noted fabrics used, threads used, stitches applied to attach layers and method applied, with a comment about the completed work.
Where applicable I included errors or changes of idea as the work progressed.

For Samples 1 to 5 I chose to use turquoise fabrics only and often reddy orange threads only

Samples 1, 4 and 5 used the same designs but different turquoise fabrics and stitch techniques

Samples 6 to 8 have more mixed coloured fabrics and threads

Samples 7 and 8 are mostly machine stitched, using free machine embroidery in running sitch and zigzag stitch

Here is an introductory page followed by a sample work sheet for Sample 3

Here are samples 1 to 8 in order

Finally I have included 3 pages showing how Sample 7 was worked from selecting fabrics and threads, techniques used, change in ideas and final comments.

I think my favourite of all the pieces is Sample 8, because of the overall effect; the combination and blending of colours, fabrics and threads, the techniques used and designs selected.
